What is a Book Talk?

A book talk is pretty much what it sounds like: talking about a book. This can range from a formal presentation to ranting to your friend about the latest book you just read to a TikTok video; they can be anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour, depending on how in-depth the person chooses to go. Generally, book talks are done with the intention of convincing someone to read a book or to stay away from it!

Here are some examples of different book talks (warning for cursing, these are adults talking about adult books!):

Guiding Questions

Can you think of a time in your life where you've given a "book talk?" What were the most important details you felt needed to be shared with your audience?

What did you like about the book? What did you dislike? (Book talks can also be about books you hate).

Can you identify the book's genre? Could you map out the overall plot on a chart?

What was the POV of the book? 1st person, 3rd person? Were there any ongoing themes you noticed?
