Supply chain and Value chain

Resources to help you undertake an internal analysis of a company’s value chain.

Articles

You can search newspapers and trade journals for mentions of a company's suppliers.

Go beyond just searching with the keywords -

  • suppliers or supply chain.
    Instead look for
    mentions of:
    - inventory control
    - delivery of goods - management

    business logistics
  • Dig a little deeper with these terms:
    - new contracts
    - joint ventures
    - partnerships
    - distributors

  • Use the databases listed. Look for:
    - announcements in press releases
    - wire stories about agreements

You'll probably find more information about large public companies that get massive amounts of media coverage than mid-sized companies. You'll likely find more about companies that manufacture consumer products than those that manufacture industrial products. For smaller companies, the research often requires far more digging as well as telephone research, which could involve talking to associations, experts, consultants, or some of a company's personnel.
